D Coruna v Getafe

Deportivo La Coruna defender Cesar Martin insists his side can still challenge for honours as they prepare to host Getafe this weekend.

Victory a fortnight ago at Real Madrid appears to have restored the belief in the Depor players after a disappointing run which included a 5-1 home thrashing by Valencia and they will see the visit of Getafe as the ideal opportunity to end their Riazor hoodoo and record their first home win of the season.

"I think the break we have had for internationals has been very good for us as it has allowed us to take a step back and reflect, but now we are raring to go again," said Cesar.

"We are also all fit now and the competition is good to fight for a position in the team. The aim is to go for everything at the end of the season.

"Against Madrid, the defence was very strong. When a team concedes a lot of goals it is the defence that you first look at, but we did not concede any and that gives us a boost to keep working.

"Now, though, this is all water under the bridge and we have to take the positives from the match and move on to Getafe.

"I think that on Saturday we will play with more confidence and do what we know we can do. Before, without confidence, we were not able to do that.

"If we want to continue the success we have had in the last few years we have to win at home and I think that we will beat Getafe and then you will see the real Depor.

"We have shown in recent years that we are consistent and people will expect the same this season. The objective will be to be among the top four places in the league and fight for the trophies on offer."

Enrique Romero rejoins the squad after several weeks out injured and Walter Pandiani is also fit having turned down the opportunity to play for Uruguay, insisting he would rather rest.

Getafe showed their raw potential by beating Athletic Bilbao last time out to give them six points so far this campaign, but midfielder Gabriel Fernandez believes they must improve their away form.

"In La Coruna, there are few teams that get results but, if we are going to secure our aim of staying in the top flight, we are going to have to start picking up points away from home," he said.

"We will play on the wings especially as Deportivo have their full-backs very advanced although the runs by (Juan Carlos) Valeron in the centre are the big danger."
